Styal 'A' never really got going against a more competitive Unicorn side. Unicorn scored mid way through the first half and Styal responded almost immediately with yet another Gareth Metcalfe goal. The second half saw the back 4 responding well as Unicorn piled on early pressure. Styal only managed to hold the ball upfront briefly at times and all Styal's midfield had a bad day at the office gifting the ball to the opposition as they seemed unable to string more than 2 passes together. Styal had their chances in the second half but Unicorn's keeper pulled off 2 top notch saves from Metcalfe and Adkin. However Styal's defensive resolve also waned and Unicorn punished Styal for not competing in the air at set pieces with 2 headed goals. A further late Unicorn goal probaly flattered the opposition.

For Styal 'A'; Steve Manifold was a key factor setting up the first goal with his delivery into the box and his delivery was also key for a number of the other goals. Matt Cook scored the opener. The rest of the goals were spread around with Ollie Wooton heading home and Gareth Metcalfe firing a blistering right foot shot beyond the keeper after cutting in from the left.

Thanks to Dave Oates efforts on the pitch Styal's first team managed to get the game against Middlewich on. The game finished with honours even.

Styal 'A' were depleted with a bare 11 available and unfortunately came up against a confident Irlam side who passed better than any other team Styal had met this season. Styal held out for the first 30 minutes but when the first goal went in for Irlam off the underside of the bar, another couple of strikes before half time gave Styal a mountain to climb in the second half. Irlam took advantage of the 3-0 lead and continued to play good football using the width of the pitch and puling Styal's formation around. An early goal from Irlam's centre forward just after the break effectively sealed the game. With the luxury of substitutes, Irlam were able to put fresh legs on and Styal's midfield ran on empty for the last 20 minutes as they tried to plug the gaps. Steve Manifold and Tom Grindell battled hard in the middle of the park and Tom Perry inbetween the sticks had another good game.

Styal 'A' 1 Cornishman 3

The strong wind was never going to help good football and it was a gritty game, Styal progressed well in the first half getting into dangerous areas but rarely getting the killer ball into the box with most moves fizzling out. Swinton probably had less of the play but when they got the ball into the dangerous areas Styal didnt compete enough for the ball. Coming off 2 goals down after conceding 2 set pieces gave Styal an uphill battle in the second half.

They responded well however and the reliable goal machine, Gareth Metcalfe pulled one back early on. Even after Swinton had scored a third after a penalty was awarded, Styal still looked capable of getting something out of the game. With about 20 minutes to go Styal won a penalty of their own but Matt Cook's effort from the spot hit the bar and with that a golden chance to get back in the game was gone. The remainder of the game saw Styal go to 3 at the back and the game opened up at both ends and both sides had numerous chances. Tom Perry had a solid game in Styal's goal but the lack of football in recent weeks showed.
